The Operations Division of the Ahoskie Police Department is under the supervision of Major Jimmy Asbell. Total cooperation between all sections are necessary to maintain the quiet, safe, environment the citizens of Ahoskie expect and deserve. The Ahoskie Police Department takes pride in being a professional organization, thoroughly modernized and in step with contemporary law enforcement practices.
Patrol personnel include uniformed patrol officers with an additional reserve force, a detective bureau, and community policing officers. All sworn officers are certified according to the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission and are required to maintain that certification through ongoing education throughout their careers.
The officers of the Ahoskie Police Department work diligently to enforce the general statutes of North Carolina within the corporate limits of the Town of Ahoskie, NC. They work cooperatively with all other local, state and federal agencies. Mutual aid agreements are signed between the Hertford County Sheriff’s Department and the Ahoskie Police Department. It should not be considered unusual to see our patrol officers backing up officers from the Hertford County Sheriff’s Department, Murfreesboro Police, Winton Police, North Carolina Highway Patrol, or North Carolina Wildlife Officers, anywhere within Hertford County.
The communications section provides the interface between the public and patrol. Calls for assistance are received, screened and handled by communications personnel. Patrol units are dispatched by communications to respond to given situations. The dispatchers are the essential link between the department and the patrol officers on the street–a vital element to the officer’s safety. Dispatch coordinates field activities interdepartmentally and with other agencies.
